ACIT Hub

Build on existing networks.
Offer industry-recognised, personalised training.
Raise the profile of Research Infrastructure Engineers (RIE’s).

The Accelerated Compute Infrastructure Training Hub (ACIT Hub) is a UKRI funded £3.9m national training hub designed to support the people who work with the supercomputer hardware. This includes System Administrators, Research Platform Engineers, and all other Research Infrastructure Engineers (RIEs) who work with HPC.

Our Aims:

Build Connection

We aim to improve networking opportunities for RIEs through working with existing communities and hosting events. Better communication between RIEs means more knowledge-sharing, better collaboration, and more opportunities for innovation.

Offer industry-recognised, personalised training

We are creating training designed by RIEs for RIEs, focusing on the skills most needed to help you progress in your career.

Raise the profile of Research Infrastructure Engineers

By increasing the visibility and awareness of RIEs, we aim to secure long-term support for careers in research infrastructure.

Why does supporting RIEs working on Accelerated Compute matter?

Accelerated Compute uses specialised hardware to make heavy computing work much faster. It is revolutionising many fields where the UK has strategic interests and comparative strength such as AI, Big Data, and research. The UK government has invested over £1.8 billion in Accelerated Compute infrastructure with expected national economic benefits exceeding £23.7 billion by 2034.

Despite this investment, the RIEs responsible for building and maintaining these platforms are often left without the support and nationwide coordination they need to develop their careers. The ACIT Hub aims to fill this gap and secure the future of accelerated compute infrastructure in the UK.
