By signing up to attend one of our events, you agree to abide by the following principles and standards of behaviour.
All event attendees have the right to be treated with fairness and equity and experience an event free from discrimination.
This Code of Conduct applies to all ACIT Hub–hosted activities, including:
- In person and online events.
- Workshops, training sessions, and networking activities.
- Event related communications, including chat platforms, email, and social media spaces associated with the event.
Expected Behaviour
We expect all participants to adhere to the following during the event:
- Treat all participants with respect, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, or any other characteristic.
- Collaborate with fellow participants in a positive and respectful manner, promoting a sense of community and shared learning.
- Respect the policies and guidelines set forth by the course or conference organisers, including but not limited to the event schedule, session guidelines, health and safety policies and any additional instructions provided.
- Use respectful and inclusive language and avoid any form of offensive or discriminatory remarks or jokes.
- Refrain from harassment in any form, including but not limited to verbal, written, visual, or physical.
- Immediately cease any unwelcome behaviour(s) that makes others feel uncomfortable.
Unacceptable Behaviour
Examples of unacceptable behaviour include, but are not limited to:
- Harassment of any form, including offensive comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, or technical choices.
- Displaying sexual images or materials in public spaces.
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following.
- Harassing photography or recording without consent.
- Sustained disruption of talks, workshops, or other events.
- Inappropriate physical contact or unwelcome sexual attention.
- Behaviour intended to exclude, intimidate, or cause discomfort.
- Use of derogatory or offensive language, including swearing or inappropriate jokes.
Please be mindful that different people can experience language and actions differently; we encourage everyone to think carefully about their words and actions.
Reporting and accountability
If you have any questions or experience or witness any violations of the Code of Conduct, please contact a member of the ACIT Hub team during the event or email ACIT@surrey.ac.uk.
Anyone asked to cease unacceptable behaviour is expected to comply immediately. If an event participant engages in behaviour that violates the ACIT Hub Events Code of Conduct, the ACIT Hub team may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender, asking them to leave our event or venue, or banning them from future ACIT Hub events.
